I am now half-way through the mid-half break of the first half of the year. It means that I'm a quarter of the way through the year which makes one realise how short in relative terms the university year is, but that is compensated for by the work being very intense. I have to say that while I am very interested in architecture and design, and I'm learning a huge amount, the university itself has been rather disappointing. Despite me paying them large amounts of money and making large sacrifices(choices?) to be there, I have got very little back. I realise that it is all about self-study, motivation, etc, but the amount of input received back from tutors and lecturers is remarkably small. I've only received one written sheet of comments in the first six weeks. A lot of things seem rather poorly organised, lecturers and tutors are constantly late, tutors are not trained and lecturers can't lecture. Surely its about a balance between the "scholarly" approach and actually encouraging students to learn. I'll go on some more in a future posting.
And the weather here is terrible. I definitely recommend studying in a good climate.
